The teenager, identified as Safayat Choudhary, hails from 24 Parganas district of West Bengal and boarded the ship at Haldia following a tiff with his grandparents before he was found by the crew members on Saturday, they said.

Safayat was first handed over to the Customs officials at Visakha Container Terminal today morning who in turn gave his custody to One Town police station after taking down his details.

"The boy is the native of Kasimpur village under Bhalgore police station limits of West Bengal. He boarded the ship out of curiosity," police inspector Mahmoud Illiyas said, adding a case of trespassing was registered against Safayat.

MV Ocean Probe set sails from Haldia on October 4 for Columbia via Visakhapatnam Port.
