Panchayati Raj minister Kalpataru Das and Higher Education minister Badrinarayan Patra were gheroed by the trucker owners at Ghatagaon where they had gone on a government programme.

The truck owners, on hunger-strike for the last eight days, were assured by the two ministers that they would take up their demand with the state government and the transport minister.

The truck owners association members were on hunger strike near the district collector's office on their demands.

Though they had been earlier assured permission for transporting minerals, the district administration failed to keep the promise, they said.

The association said that thousands of lorries remained unused in being not able to transport minerals.

The truck owners also blocked trucks on the NH-215 and NH-49 passing through the district.
