a group of people denied permission to take a Durga procession in the Akbarpur market area, threw stones on them today, official sources said.

The Nawada Superintendent of Police Lallan Mohan Prasad and three other policemen were injured in the stone-throwing incident, the sources said.

The people of Balia village were denied permission by the district administration to take procession for immersion of a Durga idol on the route which angered them.

The protestors burnt two huts and damaged the vehicle of the Circle Officer, police said.

There were unconfirmed reports of crude bombs being thrown at the policemen.

The injured policemen were hospitalised.
