'Preventive steps will be taken to control epidemic diseases'

Addressing zilla parishad presidents and mayors from all over the state, Health Minister Suresh Shetty said the need of the hour was to ensure that there was no outbreak of such diseases, rather than taking steps for their treatment.

He said the state health department is being upgraded and modernised to provide state-of-the-art healthcare services to citizens.

Giving details, the minister said medicines are being procured through e-tendering. Eight godowns have been constructed at divisional level and the medicines are being distributed to primary healthcare centres (PHCs), rural health centres and district hospitals after checking their quality.

"Online drug inventory monitoring will be done of all medicines available at the primary healthcare centres," he added.

 

Generic medicine store will be made available at district hospitals, he said, adding that two medical officers will be posted at each primary healthcare centres to provide quality health services. Similarly, the government will set up ten metro blood banks in the state.

In the next two-and-half-years, the government plans to expand the network of ambulance services, he said, adding that plans are afoot to ensure that 937 ambulances each the rural areas.
