Matrisadan Ashram, to which Swami Poornand belongs, secured his bail this afternoon after furnishing a bail bond of Rs 15000, jail authorities said.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's court had granted him bail earlier.

Poornanand was arrested on charges of attempting suicide on December 22, the 13th day of his fast unto death in protest against resumption of quarrying and stone crushing in the ecologically sensitive areas along the Ganga.

The fasting seer had to be force-fed in jail in view of his deteriorating health. Buckling under pressure, the state government has already stopped quarrying and stone crushing in the river.
