The Baz Luhrmann-directed 3D movie, based on the F Scott Fitzgerald book and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular Jay Gatsby, was due to be released on Christmas Day, reported the Los Angeles time.
"Based on what we've seen, Baz Luhrmann's incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald's American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exiting way.
"We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible," said Dan Fellman, President of domestic distribution, Warner Bros.
The move will also avoid a clash with DiCaprio's "Django Unchained" which will release on December 25.
"The Great Gatsby" stars Carey Mulligan as Gatsby's love interest Daisy Buchanan and Tobey Maguire as the narrator Nick Carraway.
