Dr Cruz participated at `Live Surgical Workshop on Thyroid Cancer', organised by Basavatharakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute here.
A major cause of thyroid ailments was lack of iodine, but the increased use of iodine through the salt was helping, he added.
He also gave a demonstration of a live surgery to remove a tumor of a thyroid cancer patient during the workshop.
