"Like other states, the direct cash transfer scheme would also be operationalised in the four districts of Tripura in March, but it would create problems rather than conveniences because adequate banks do not exist in the state," Chowdhury told reporters.
He said there were 1,038 village panchayats and village committees but only 102 branches of banks.
The central government will transfer cash for scholarships, pensions, rural job guarantee wages to the beneficiaries through banks or post office accounts.
Chowdhury said, in Tripura though AADHAR number was provided to a large number of people, it would be difficult to transfer the cash unless more banks are set up in the rural areas.
