WCD Secretary Prem Narain told reporters that the Ministry was working on a bill in this regard and it could be taken to Parliament in the coming sessions.
"For amending this act, an inter-ministerial group has been appointed and they are looking into it," Narain said.
He said the government had ratified the UN convention on organised crime and due to that there was obligation to update the law to bring it in sync with the international requirements.
Senior Ministry officials said that while there were certain definitions which needed to be added to the existing legislation, other aspects related to its functioning were also being examined.
"In the existing law, the word trafficking has not been defined. We are now working on that," a senior official, who was accompanying Narain, said.
Narain said the National Commission for Women (NCW) was preparing a set of guidelines for companies which employed young women.
"The NCW had come up with this suggestion on guidelines after there were cases like the suicide of Geetika Sharma. We asked them to go ahead and prepare these guidelines," the Secretary said.
