'Year of women and child' in Assam

Making this announcement at a press conference here today, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said there should be change of attitude and people should be aware of growing crime in society.

Condemning recent incidents of crime against women both in New Delhi and in Assam, the chief minister expressed satisfaction that there is "however a new awakening and people are more conscious".

Giving a list of achievement of his government in the past year, the chief minister said the GDP had risen from 2.62 o 8.42 last year and there was development in the financial front.

"This year our government will concentrate on how to develop the rural economy because majority of people are rural-based", the chief minister.

 

"Although we welcome big industries in the state, but unlike states as Gujurat and Maharashtra, the economy in Assam is oriented to rural areas and so this year our priority will be develop the villages", the chief minister said. (More) pti SB SUS
