About 1,000 members from Dawoodi Bohra community, including women and children, fell sick after consuming food at an iftar party here, an official said today.

The iftar dinner party was hosted at a masjid in Safi Nagar last evening which was attended by a large number of people from the community.

Around 1,000 people, including women and children, complained of vomiting and diarrhoea after partaking food at the event organised as part of the ongoing holy month of Ramzan, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shingar Shrivastava said.

"Hundred people are being treated at different hospitals, while the rest 900 had been discharged after primary treatment," he said.

"A team of officials rushed to the masjid but by that time the food items had been consumed and so we couldn't get their samples for chemical analysis," Shrivastava added.

According to the victims, they fell sick after consuming sweets made of coconut and milk product, he said.

"We are investigating the incident," he added.
