Around 1,000 NCC girl cadets from across the country today set out for a 60-kilometre-long 'Kanchan-Surya Darjeeling Baghan Trek' (KSDBT) in the Darjeeling hills.
Divided into four batches comprising 250 cadets each, the senior and junior wing girl cadets from 17 NCC Directorates will consecutively undertake the trek across the hill tracts dotted with plush tea gardens, with night halts enroute at pre-determined camp sites.
The first batch comprising 250 cadets from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal was flagged off by trek manager Brig G N Raghu Ram from the base camp at Hatigisha today.
The last batch will complete the trek on November 15.
The trek is conducted annually by West Bengal and Sikkim NCC Directorate.
It aims to inculcate the spirit of adventure, love for nature, mountains, flora fauna and develops stamina, team spirit, endurance, self-confidence, esprit de corps, as well as promote national integration by living together and getting accustomed to the food habits of different regions and states.
The route for the trek covers Hatigisha, Dudia, Phuguri, Manju and Bunkulung.
