1,196 pilgrims leave for Amarnath shrine

A fresh batch of 1,196 pilgrims today left for the Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir amidst tight security.

A total of 1,196 pilgrims, including 822 men, 274 women and 100 sadhus left in a cavalcade of 32 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp here for the two base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal, a police officer said.

Yesterday, 2,910 pilgrims had paid obeisance at the holy shrine.

A total of 1,96,382 people have so far paid obeisance at the Amarnath shrine.
