1.2 lakh Delhi women challaned for not wearing helmets

Delhi Police has issued challans against 1,22,523 women riders and pillion riders for not wearing helmets, during the last six months.

"Wearing of helmets by women riders and pillion riders is compulsory in NCT of Delhi. Delhi Police is strictly enforcing the mandatory use of helmet for women riders and pillion riders," Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary told Lok Sabha in reply to a written question.

The minister said regular road safety campaigns are undertaken by the Delhi Police to promote mandatory use of helmet for women while driving or sitting pillion.

Press advertisements have also been released in the leading newspapers for guidance of women riders and pillion riders in the NCT of Delhi, he said.
