According to the report sent by Collector Anshul Mishra to the authorities, a detailed survey and inspection conducted in 51 granite quarries revealed that 45,000 blocks of granite stones worth Rs 1,200 crore had been illegally mined.

All the 45,000 stones had been mined from poramboke lands (government lands) during the last several years, the report said.

Mishra charged that one particular granite ming and exporting company was responsible for most of the violations and illegal quarrying. Various documents from the company regarding their activities are missing and an inquiry is on to trace them.

The Collector suggested seizing of the properties of those indulging in illegal quarrying.
