A new rebate scheme launched by Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has benefited around 1.25 lakh water consumers with a total waiver of Rs 128 crore on late payment surcharge and bill arrears having been given under it.

"Over 97 per cent of the beneficiaries of the scheme live in E, F, G and H category colonies," said a senior DJB officer.

People can avail the benefits of the scheme by installing the prescribed water meter and informing their Zonal Revenue Office. Domestic consumers who have functional meters can avail the scheme from February 15 to July 31.

Under the scheme, 100 per cent late payment surcharge waiver will be given to all domestic consumers whereas the rebate on the principle amount of the water bill will be determined on the basis of the category in which the consumer's colony has been placed.

Consumers in E, F, G and H-category unauthorised colonies will be completely exempted from paying the pending water bills, which will be automatically waived, and they will not be required to visit the ZRO.

Consumers in A and B category colonies will get 20 per cent waiver while those in C and D categories will get 50 and 75 per cent waiver, respectively, said the officer.

Consumers need to deposit only the amount payable for availing the rebate at their nearest ZRO or online. They may also use the m-Seva app of DJB for the same, the officer said.
