1.42 kg of gold seized from air passenger

Customs officials today seized 1.42 kg of gold from a passenger, who arrived here in an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah, in the early hours today.

Based on a tip-off, customs officials kept vigil at the airport and nabbed a 32-year old man, identified as Nishant from Thrissur, found moving in a suspicious manner.

On checking him and his baggage, officials found the gold in the form of thin strips coated with aluminium, customs department sources said.

Small ingots, which were conceled in the dial of a watch and a measurement tape made in gold yarn, were also seized following the man's arrest, they said, adding that the value of the seizure was estimated at Rs 40 lakh.
