1,500 kg adulterated ghee seized, one held

About 1,500 kgs of adulterated ghee was today seized by officials of the Greater Visakhpatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Police Task Force today here and one person was arrested in this connection.

The sleuths conducted a raid at a house in Muralanagar area here and one T Sanyasi Rao, the man running the unit, was nabbed.

Acting on a tip-off, the team led by Food Safety Inspector G V Appa Rao and the Police Task Force, took the action.

"The accused used to prepare spurious ghee by adding large amounts of vanaspati and palm oil into pure ghee. This illegal activity was going on for the past six months," the inspector said.
 

The accused confessed that he supplied the adulterated ghee to small grocery stores in various parts in the city at cheaper rates and the owner of the stores would then sell the ghee to people, he added.

"The ghee samples would be sent to the laboratory and Sanyasi Rao would be booked under Food Safety and Standard Act said, the Officer said.
