1.7 crore kanwarias visit Haridwar

Haridwar SSP Arun Mohan Joshi said a total of 1.7 crore kanwarias have so far visited the holy city since the annual festival began on July 4.

A round-the-clock vigil is being maintained by the Uttarakhand police in view of the large number of pilgrims who have in and around Haridwar.

The kanwarias, mostly from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana, who come here in hordes, take water from the river Ganga here to annoint Shiv Lingams in different temples in their home states.

The Kanwar Mela ends tomorrow and all the school and colleges, which remained closed for a week, will reopen on July 18. The Haridwar-Delhi National Highway will also reopen on July 18.
