1,850 Delhi Metro commuters provided emergency medical aid

As many as 1,850 metro commuters suffering from health-related emergencies while traveling in the Delhi Metro trains have been provided with immediate medical assistance by the metro staff since 2012.

According to a DMRC spokesperson, the assistance provided by the metro staff since January 2012 ranged from administering first aid to taking the ailing passenger to the nearest hospital by ambulance.

They have also been provided wheel chairs and stretchers as per need.

Out of these, approximately 100 cases have been of heart ailments which require immediate attention, the spokesperson said, adding the metro staff have been able to assist around 340 commuters complaining of chest, stomach, abdominal pain.
 

Other cases include 105 cases of vomiting, 25 severe headache cases, 65 cases of fainting while traveling, giddiness and dehydration during summer months.

"In these cases, the ailing passengers have been rushed to the nearest hospital and Metro personnel have accompanied them in case they were traveling alone or their accompanying passengers required further assistance.

"In case of passengers falling down, immediate first aid has been provided by the staff," the spokesperson said.

To ensure commuters facing health related problems are immediately attended to, all Metro staff deputed at the Metro stations are provided one-week training in First Aid as part of the Delhi Metro's basic training programme for its personnel organised at the Metro Training Institute in Shastri Park, the spokesperson said.

All Metro stations are provided with contact details of nearby hospitals and ambulance services so that they can be contacted immediately in case of any medical emergency.

Any commuter suffering from any health issue can contact Delhi Metro helpline 1,55,370 for assistance and can also press the Passenger Emergency Alarm to seek assistance from train operator.
