1,898 live cartridges found from drain

Police have recovered 1,898 live cartridges from a drain near a railway bridge here during the last four days.

Ramnagar police started a search operation on Monday when some youths informed them that they found cartridges in the drain which flows into Ramala tank on the outskirts of the city.

Interestingly, this is the fourth time cartridges have been found in the area.

In 2004, as many as 3,324 cartridges were recovered from the banks of Ramala tank.

In 2005, 4,447 cartridges were found, and another 2,896 cartridges were found in 2009.

Ramnagar Police Station SHO Pramod Giri said workers of sanitary department of municipal corporation have been deployed for the search.
 

Of the cartridges found, 1,743 are of 9 mm calibre while the rest were of the type used in musket rifles, he said, adding the search would continue tomorrow.

Samples of the rounds would be sent to Ordinance Factory, Pune, for testing, Giri added.
