1.9 kg of gold bars seized at Hyderabad airport

Customs sleuths today seized 1.9 kg of gold bars estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh from a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here.

Based on intelligent profiling, the officers of Customs Air Intelligence Unit, intercepted a passenger Kannur Abdulkhader Mohammed Haneefa, who arrived to RGIA by Qatar Airways flight at 3 am.

On questioning by the officers about possession of any dutiable /prohibited goods, the passenger denied and replied in negative.

However, after detailed examination, the officers recovered 1.9 kilograms of gold bars from a hand bag which was not put to scan by the passenger.
 

The total value of seized goods is expected to be Rs 50 lakhs. The passenger was interrogated and he admitted the offence.

Further follow-up investigation is going on, Customs officials said.
