Eight accused of the 2011 Phool Mohammad murder case surrendered before a local court in Sawaimadhopur district today after police arrested one accused.

All the nine were among 34 absconding persons accused in the burning of Phool Mohammad, then Station House Officer (SHO) of Soorwal police station, in 2011, Superintendent of police (SP) of Sawaimadhopur Sawai Singh said.

The absconders who surrendered are Dharmendra Meena, Rameshwar Meena, Banwari Meena, Tej Ram, Samarth Lal, Gumaan, Ratan Lal and Chandra Prakash.

Another accused, Shankar Mali, was arrested by the police earlier today.

"Eight accused today surrendered because of the pressure of the police. As many as 25 are still absconding and efforts are on to nab them," the SP said.

A total of 89 persons have been named in the case being investigated by the CBI.

The SHO was burnt alive by a mob at Sawai Madhopur on March 17, 2011 after one Rajesh Meena jumped to his death from a tank protesting against police inaction in an earlier murder case.
