A man was killed while four were injured when a portion of a dillapidated balcony collapsed in New Friend's Colony area.
According to police, the victim, Jamshed, an employee of a garments shop, was sleeping along with four others under the balcony at a building adjacent to the New Friends Colony community centre.
At around 10 pm yesterday a portion of the balcony came crashing down on the men sleeping below. Jamshed was buried under the rubble. The building was declared dangerous by the civic body.
Locals pulled the four others out of the rubble and informed the fire department about the incident. Fire officials rushed to the spot and pulled out Jamshed who was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre where he was declared dead on arrival.
The civic agency has also asked the department to probe the incident. A case under sections relting to causing of death due to negligence has been registered.
