1 dies, 11 NCC cadets fall ill after consuming food at camp

A 15-year-old NCC cadet died while eleven others were taken ill after allegedly consuming food at a camp at Rewalsar, about 25 km from Mandi, police said today.

Kamana Devi was admitted to zonal hospital at Mandi after she complained of stomach ache last evening. However, she failed to recover, they said.

"Eleven students who complained of stomach ache, headache and fever were admitted to health centre at Ratti and some of them were later shifted to zonal hospital at Mandi and their condition is stated to be stable," police said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said investigation is on.
 

Chief Medical Officer Des Raj Sharma said the cause of illness is yet to ascertained and a team of doctors has been sent to the camp to find out whether the illness was caused by alleged food poisoning. The test reports are awaited.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter by Deputy Commissioner, Mandi and further action would be taken after the (inquiry) report is received.

As many as 443 cadets, bothboys and girls from different parts of Mandi district are attending the Camp.
