1 electrocuted, 22 injured in religious procession

One person was today electrocuted and 22 others were injured, including two seriously, after they came in contact with a high-tension wire during a religious procession in Telangana's Nizamabad district, police said.

The mishap occurred at Machapur village of Yellareddy mandal, when a group of villagers were taking out a procession as part of 'Peer' festival, carrying a religious flag which accidentally touched the overhead wire, Yellareddy Circle Inspector MGS Ramakrishana said.

"While one person died on the spot due to burn injuries suffered in the electrocution, two others were seriously injured. Twenty others also suffered minor burn injuries in the incident," he told PTI over phone.
 

The deceased was identified as Jinka Chinna Sailu (30), he said.

A case has been registered under relevant IPC sections and a probe is on.
