One person was arrested today in connection with the alleged physical assault of a man by a group in the premises of a university here, the police said.

While one person was arrested, efforts are on to nab some others in connection with the incident, stated to have taken place in Ravenshaw University premises, they said.

The incident came to light after a video went viral in the social media yesterday.

The arrest was made after a case was registered in Malgodown police station here following an FIR lodged by the victim, the police said adding, investigating officers have spoken to the university authorities on the matter.

University Vice-Chancellor P C Sarangi denied that it was a case of ragging as reported in a section of media and claimed the man shown to have been beaten up by a group, is not a student of the university.

Those who assaulted him are yet to be identified, he said.

The Police said the incident is suspected to have taken place due to an old rivalry.

The mother of the victim, who met the VC and police officers, demanded immediate arrest of all those involved in the crime.
