Santosh, 28, a resident of village Katholi in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from his native place after a probe of "his involvement," a senior police official said.

During interrogation, he confessed to have strangulated his second wife Meeta, alias Nisha, and their one-and-half year old son Vivek in his rented accomodation on the intervening night of November 22 and 23 following an altercation, the official said adding that Santosh then locked the house and escaped.

Police got a call on November 27 that foul smell was emanating from a locked house at Gali No 11 Swatanter Nagar, Narela near Mandir.

When the house was broken open, bodies of a woman, aged about 20-22, and a male child aged, about one and half years, were found in a highly decomposed state, said B S Jaiswal DCP, Outer district.

He said Santosh, who was jobless, married Neha about two-three years ago. The husband and wife, who used to work in a jeans manufacturing firm, used to quarrel frequently, he said.

The parents of the deceased were contacted who came to Delhi on December 1 and filed an FIR.

Santosh had first married one Anita and had two daughters, aged two and eight. The accused was jobless and dependent on the earning of his father who was serving in Saudi Arabia.

Due to this, his wife and children started residing at their parental house.

"In the meantime he came in the contact with one Meeta alias and went to Mumbai with her and solemnised marriage. Later they came to Delhi and started living at a rented accommodation where his brother-in-law (Jija) Prem Chand was residing along with his family. Nisha also took up a job in a jeans manufacturing factory," the official said.
