A group of four robbers had decamped with precious jewelleries, some cash and US dollars from a Safdarjung enclave residence last week as part of a plot hatched by its servant, police said today, after arresting one of the accused.

The arrested was identified as Amarjit, a resident of the Tagore Garden area, by the Crime Branch. A gold 'kada' (bracelet), one platinum kada and one gold chain have been recovered from his possession, police said.

According to the complainant Niyati Nagpal, four persons possessing weapons barged in and asked for the keys of the locker on July 30 afternoon when she was present at home with her children and her maid Kavita and servant Ranjan.

"The robbers tied up their hands and closed their mouth with the help of adhesive tape and ran away with diamond and gold jewellery, some cash and US dollars," Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

He said that during investigation it was revealed that the servant Ranjan had "hatched a conspiracy". The arrested belongs to a poor family and his wife runs a small beauty parlour, police said.

The arrest of Amarjit, one of the five accused, happened on August 3 from the Tagore Garden area. "On sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he, with the help of his associates Kalu, Amit, Chaudhary and Ranjan had committed the crime," police said.
