An alleged member of a criminal gang has been arrested with police claiming today that the accused was involved in the case in which a journalist was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in the city.

The accused, identified as one Mayank Goswami (30) was an active member of the Chhotey Lal Gang, police said. Goswami is a resident of the Mandawali area of Delhi.

They added that the car which was used in the alleged robbery involving the journalist has also been recovered.

Police said they got information that one of the accused in the case would be coming towards Mandawali, whereupon a trap was laid to arrest him.

"Goswami has said that along with Chhotey Lal and three others, identified as Pradeep, Dheeraj and Chahar, he had on January 12 robbed the journalist.

"All of them pointed guns at the victim and robbed him of his belongings before fleeing the spot," said a senior police officer.

Police added that Chhotey Lal was later murdered by Dheeraj in Ghaziabad on January 21. Dheeraj was subsequently arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police.

"We are investigating the case and Pradeep and Chahar (the other two accused) will be arrested soon," the officer said.
