1 kg gold seized at Amritsar international airport

The Customs department seized over 1 kg of rhodium-coated gold wires from two flyers, at the Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport here, officials said today.

Customs Commissioner Dipak Kumar Gupta said officers of the Customs Preventive Commissionerate, Amritsar, acting on specific inputs, intercepted two passengers who arrived from Dubai via Delhi.

Gupta said they were arrested after 1,009 grams of rhodium-coated gold wires was found hidden in their suitcases.

The seizure was valued at nearly Rs 30 lakh.

The father of one of the apprehended persons was suspected to be a financier of this smuggling racket, Gupta said, adding that he is a resident of Amritsar.
 

"Searches have been conducted at his residence and incriminating documents/materials have been found. He is absconding. Further investigations are in progress," Gupta stated in an official release.
