The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Chowka police station on Monday night when a group of pilgrims, all from Junagarh in Gujarat, were heading to Banaras after visiting Jagannath temple in Puri, the police said.

The driver lost control over the wheels following which the vehicle dashed against a roadside wall late Monday night, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Chandil, D N Banka said.

The woman pilgrim was killed on the spot, he said.

Fifteen other pilgrims suffered minor injuries, he added.

The police went to the spot after being informed about the accident and shifted the injured to the government-run M G M Hospital here, the SDPO said.
