One person was killed and 19 others were injured in separate mishaps on NH 2 in Burdwan district today, a day after seven persons died in a car accident on the same highway.
A youth was killed and the driver seriously injured when a car overturned and fell into a ditch near Tezganj this afternoon, a senior police officer said.
The SUV was travelling to Tarakeshwar in Hooghly when the mishap happened.
In another accident on the same highway, 18 persons were injured, three of them seriously, when a bus hit a trailer at Galsi earlier in the day, the officer said.
The bus, travelling on Asansol-Krishnagar route, hit the trailer from behind injuring 18 passengers.
Of the 18 injured, three were taken to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and their condition was stated to be serious, the officer said.
The rest 15 were now under treatment at Pursha Primary Health Centre, he said.
Yesterday, seven members of a family were killed when the car they were travelling in was hit by a tanker on NH-2 near Tezganj in the district.
Local residents alleged the highway has become a death trap due to frequent accidents, but the officer said police were enforcing more stringent regulations and the accidents took place mainly due to traffic rule violations by drivers or mechanical glitches in vehicles.
