A car knocked down three people killing one and seriously injuring two others in Bihar's Nalanda district this morning, a police officer said.

The mishap took place near Babur Banna village as a speeding SUV lost control and ran over three people standing by the roadside.

One of them, identified as Rajiv Chaudhary (24) died on the spot, while two others suffered injuries, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shams Afroz said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and the injured persons admitted to a hospital for treatment, he said.

Angry villagers later torched the vehicle, while the police reached there and arrested its three occupants, including driver, on charge of rash driving, Afroz said.
