1 killed, 22 injured after being struck by lightning

A child was killed and 22 others were injured after being struck by lightning in two separate incidents in Chhattisgarh today.

A 11-year-old boy was killed and two of his brothers sustained injuries after they were struck by lightning in Sukhatal village of Bemetara district, a police official said.

The incident took place when these children took shelter under a tree during rains on the outskirts of the village under Dadhi police station limits.

A shepherd saw the injured children after which he immediately informed villagers. After this, they were rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared one of them brought dead, the official said, adding, the deceased has been identified as Hemraj Kosle.
 

His brothers Hemsingh, 9, and Lavsingh, 13, are being treated at a local hospital and their condition is stated to out of danger, the official added.

In a separate incident, at least twenty students were injured when lightning struck a government primary school in tribal-dominated Jashpur district.

The incident took place at primary school under Kamarima village panchayat in Bagicha development block this afternoon, Jashpur Collector Himshikhar Gupta told PTI.

When the lectures were going on, lightning struck a tree in the campus and around 20 students felt its residual effect following which they were rushed to community health Centre in Bagicha, Gupta said.

"The condition of all of them was stated to be normal. They were being sent to their house after treatment," he added.
