1 killed, 8 missing in China gold mine accident

One person was killed and eight others were missing today in an accident at a gold mine in China's central Henan province, officials said.

The accident left 11 workers and six management staff trapped by smoke in Qinling gold mine of China National Gold Group in Lingbao city, sate-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Nine people were lifted out of the mine while eight remained missing.

One person died in the hospital, the report said.
