1 person named as accused in Hindu Munnani leader's murder

: A man taken into custody by CB-CID in connection with the murder of a Hindu Munnani activist was today arrested and produced before a court here.

The arrest of Abu Dahir came after a magistrate deputed by a court visited the CB-CID police office, found him in their custody and directed them to produce him in court.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Madurasekharan had issued a search warrant on a petition by Dahir's family that he was taken by CB-CID on Monday last was not to be seen for the last 24 hours.

He also directed the third Judicial Magistrate, V P Velusamy to personally visit the CB-CID office and meet Dahir.
 

Following this, CB-CID arrested Dahir and produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custory till April five.

Yesterday, tense moments had prevailed in front of the Police Commissioner's office here after about 200 activists of Popular Front of India gathered there and demanded release of Dahir,who they alleged was forcibly taken into custody by CB-CID

The Hindu Munnani functionary Sasikumar was murdered on the night of September 22 2016 by a four-member gang on motor cycles when he was going home in Thudiyalur.

The city witnessed violence the next day during the funeral procession when a police van was set ablaze and shops were ransacked.
