One more person was today picked up on suspicion of being involved in the alleged rape and killing of a woman in Lakhimpur in Assam even as Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said an SIT will enquire into the incident.
The State Women's Commission has also taken up the case suo motu and was in close contact with the police.
"We have decided to form an SIT to enquire into the incident. We are aware of the atrocities against women in Assam and are trying to check them," Gogoi said.

"Yes atrocities against women are there in Assam, but this is happening all over the world... There is a recent report even in Bhutan. We are trying to check it in Assam."
Raju Chetia was believed to be known to the woman and was picked up from Boganadi area, district Additional Superintendent of Police Ashim Swargiary told PTI.
Chetia was picked up as the woman's mobile phone records showed that there was a conversation between them till 1.18 pm and the incident had occurred at 1.30 pm, Swargiary said.
Chetia has so far not been arrested as investigations were on and police were awaiting the post mortem report, he said.
Earlier on November 25, two persons were also picked up in this connection.
Meanwhile, protests continued today in Boganadi demanding the arrest and punishment of the culprits who allegedly raped the woman on November 22, gorged out her eyes, and dumped her from a tempo taxi leading to her death in Lakhimpur district of upper Assam.
