More than one tonne of adulterated spices were today seized during a raid at the premises of a local businessman in the city's Delhi Gate police station area.

According to senior Food and Drug Authority officer Chandan Pandey, leader of the raiding party, an unauthorised grinder plant was being run from the premises at Morni Pech in Gudiya Bagh where spices, including red chilli and turmeric powder, were being prepared and packed.

Pandey said that two drums of highly toxic artificial colour were also recovered from the building.

Pandey said that the raids were being supervised by the District Magistrate in view of reports of large-scale adulteration by local traders.
