All 10 workers trapped after a gas explosion at a coal mine last month in eastern China's Jiangxi Province were today confirmed dead.

The provincial workplace safety watchdog said the explosion on October 9 in Yongji Coal Mine in Shangrao County had caused a section of the shaft to collapse.

Investigations found the mine's safety license had expired in January but illegal mining had not ceased despite warnings issued by the local government.

The owner of the privately-owned mine is now in police custody, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
