The Centre has selected ten districts in Rajasthan for its 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (save girl, educate girl) awareness campaign.
The mass campaign will be run in Jaipur, Alwar, Dausa, Dholpur, Sawaimadhopur, Karauli, Sriganganagar, Sikar, Bharatpur and Jhunjhunu, said Neelam Kapur, the Principal Director General of the Field Publicity Directorate of Government of India which selected the districts.
The Union Women and Child Development Ministry has selected 100 districts for the campaign in the country, and of them, ten were taken up by FPD in Rajasthan, Kapur said, addressing a workshop at its regional office here.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajasthan Minsiter of State for Women and Child Development (Independent charge) Anita Bhadel urged people and NGOs to participate in the campaign to achieve the targets.
Society and NGOs should show interest in the government's plans so that declining sex ratio is controlled and girls area given equal opportunity since birth, Bhadel said.
To contain crime against women, Bhadel said, a self-defence course was being launched in 40,000 schools in the state.
Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao's brand ambassador and MLA Diya Kumari opined that the awareness programme to save girl child was necessary not only in rural areas but also in cities as female foeticide was observed more there.
