10 fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan naval personnel

The arrest was made for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line and fishing near Point Pedro in the island nation

Ten fishermen from Karaikal were arrested by Sri Lankan naval personnel today for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line and fishing near Point Pedro in the island nation.

"The fishermen were going in a boat owned by one Veeramani when they were arrested," Deputy Director of Fisheries Kalimuthu said.

Meanwhile, the remand of six fishermen from this coastal town, arrested on November 26, was extended to December 21 by Judicial Magistrate Glacia Alex Raja of a court in Munnar.

Five other fishermen from Rameswaram and four from Pudukottai, who were also arrested on the same date, were produced before Jaffna Judicial magistrate Sarojini Ilangovan and remanded till December 23, officials quoting information from Sri Lanka said.
