10 kg ganja seized, 2 arrested

With the arrest of two persons and seizure of ganja worth over Rs 10 lakh, police today claimed to have busted a gang accused of selling narcotics in Mathura and adjoining districts.

Two persons were arrested on a tip-off near Bajrang Dharm Kanta falling under Highway police station and ganja worth over Rs 10 lakh weighing 8 kg was recovered from their possession, Deputy SP Shailesh Pandey told reporters.

The duo have been identified as Saurabh, resident of Nanu Sasani, and Raj Kumar, resident of Hari Nagar colony, Pandey said, adding, they allegedly confessed to have supplying narcotics in neighbouring districts, he said.
 

A stolen motorbike, two country-made pistols with cartridges were recovered from their possession, he stated.

SSP Rakesh Singh has rewarded the police party with a sum of Rs 5,000, he added.

In another case, silver ornaments worth nearly Rs 5 lakh were looted from a goldsmith at gunpoint near underpass of Nera village at Yamuna Expressway under Baldeo police station, police said.

The incident took place this afternoon when Ganga Ram was on his way to Agra to deliver silver ornaments weighing 7 kg to a customer and he was hit by a speeding car, Deputy SP Mahaban Ajai Kumar said.

When he fell down, a motorbike stopped near him and the miscreant riding it snatched the ornaments at gunpoint and fled from the scene, Kumar said.

The car was found abandoned about 10 km away from the spot, police said, adding, investigations are underway to nab the accused.
