At least ten people were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh as rains lashed most parts of North India today.
In the national capital, heavy rains led to considerable drop in temperature, leading to traffic snarls due to water logging in various parts of the city.
Massive traffic jams were witnessed in several parts of the city, including major intersections such as Ashram Chowk, Moolchand underpass, Dhaula Kuan and Nehru Place, among others.
In UP, three people each died in Kaushambi and Fatehpur districts while two others were killed in Auraiya in rain and flood-related incidents.
A report from Gorakhpur said that about 50 revenue villages in Belghat area were marooned due to the surging Ghaghra and Quano rivers and out of them 15 are totally submerged.
Boats have been arranged to shift the affected people to safer areas, the report said.
Central Water Commission sources said the Ganga river continued to flow above the danger mark at Ghazipur and Ballia and Yamuna at Prayag Ghat at Mathura.
In Himachal, two persons lost their lives in Kangra and Mandi districts while an alert was sounded following rise in level of major rivers and their tributaries due to heavy rains.
Heavy rains continued in Kangra district and an alert was sounded, advising people living along the river banks to move to safer places.
