10 persons were killed and seven missing in a massive landslide triggered by a cyclonic storm and heavy pre-monsoon rainfall that swept away nine houses in Laipuitlang area here early this morning.
10 bodies, including five of women, have been recovered while seven persons suspected to be trapped under the debris and feared dead, SP (Traffic) Lallianmawia, who is one of the supervisors of the rescue operations, said.
Lallianmawia said six persons, four of them women, were rescued alive after being swept away.

Landslides were reported from other parts of Aizawl and other districts where more than 20 people were reported to have been injured, police said.
The landslides have caused a number of road blocks and many districts have been cut off from Aizawl.
Power transmission lines were snapped in many places, while telecommunications including mobile connections were also severely affected.
