10 killed in Egypt cylinder blast

Ten people, including five children, were killed and eleven others seriously injured when three buildings collapsed after a butane gas cylinder exploded in Upper Egypt.

The blast happened in Malawy in Minya Governorate, according to Adel Saad, the director of Malawy General Hospital.

Five children were among the dead, Saad added.

In the period between July 2012 and June 2013, at least 392 residential buildings have collapsed, according to data available on the website of Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.

About 800 families have been displaced in an year and 192 people were killed due to the collapse of buildings caused by the lack of governmental monitoring, the website said.
