10 killed in flash floods, house collapses in Jammu region

Ten people, including four children, were killed in flash floods and house collapses in Jammu region as incessant rains continued to wreck havoc in the area.

Roads and residential areas in several parts of the region were flooded. While 15 people were rescued, 7 are still trapped in Jammu and Samba districts.

During the past two days, over 150 people have been rescued as incessant rains raised water level in rivers and streams across Kashmir Valley.

A house collapsed due to rains in Gursai border belt of Mendhar tehsil in the district this morning, leading to the death of three members of family, a police officer said here today.
 

45-year-old Shameema Akhtar, wife of Younis, and his two children Altaf Younis (10) and Tahseem Akhtar (7 years) were killed.

Two women died in a house collapse due to heavy rains in Qasim Nagar area of Jammu city this evening, the officer said.

Five persons, including a child, died in flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Jammu region.

A 25-year-old woman and 30-year-old man were washed in flash flood triggered by heavy rains in a river in Gool belt of Ramban district today, officials said.

In another incident, a 60-year-old Bashir Gujjar was washed away by flashfloods in Samba district.

One child was washed away in flash floods in a 'nalah' in Govindsar area of Kathua district last evening.

One more person was washed away in flashfloods in Mahore belt of Reasi district today, they said.

Fifteen people were rescued from flash floods in Samba and Jammu districts while seven others are still trapped in the floods in Bansantar, Bai nallah, Tawi and Ujh rivers, they said.
