10 persons arrested in J&K as part of operation against crime

Ten persons were arrested today in separate operations for their alleged role in various crimes including drug peddling and burglary in Kashmir Valley, police said.

Mashooq Ahmad Shah, Hilal Ahmad Shah and Fayaz Ahmad Gojri were arrested on charges of looting valuables worth lakhs of rupees from the house of one Habibullah Dar at Matipora Ajas in Bandipora district, a police spokesperson said.

In his complaint, Dar had alleged that the three burglars along with another person, Ghulam Hassan Shah, travelling in an SUV, approached his family and asked for some water to break their fast on Tuesday, police said.
 

"Later they asked for some tea and entered the house, gave the family members something to eat and told them they can increase the value of the family's money and gold," the spokesperson said, adding "Later they decamped with some cash, a mobile phone and gold worth lakhs of rupees."

The stolen property have been recovered while efforts are on to nab the fourth accused, he said.

In Kulgam district, Sarwar Amin Bhat alias 'Dada' was arrested after 28 kg poppy straw was recovered from his house at Kharbrari, police said.

Another peddler, Abdul Gani Dar of Gundbaba, was arrested during checking at Bijbehara in Anantnag district and 750 grams of charas recovered from him.

In another operation Abdul Rehman of Waghama was arrested near Sirhama-Bijbehara village and 7 kg poppy straw was recovered from him, he said.

Also four persons were arrested on charges of gambling and Rs 5,000 recovered from their possession at Nowgam here, police added.
