At least ten persons, including three children, were taken ill after they drank water from a water tank which the villagers suspected to be contaminated with some toxic chemical on the eve of Sarpanch polls at Kalla- Mangri village of Udaipur district.

The victims, who complained of stomach pain and vomiting, were rushed to a government hospital in Rajsamand, and most of them were discharged after treatment by this morning, an official of Udaipur collectorate told PTI.

Secretary of Gram Panchayat Gatode, Manoharlal Rawat, has lodged an FIR with the Sarada Police Station over the suspected mixing of poisonous chemical in the water tank, and samples were taken for tests, the official said.

Rawat said a chemical, which was blue in color, was spotted floating on the surface of the water.

The police were probing the case, the official said.

The polluted water was cleaned out, and fresh supply of potable drinking water was made available to villagers, he said.
