10 police personnel injured in stone pelting

A team of 10 police personnel, including a woman sub-inspector, were injured in an attack by residents of Sikri village in the Bhopa area when they had gone there to arrest a history sheeter.

According to sources, in the incident which took place yesterday, the villagers turned violent and pelted the police force with stones, thus preventing the arrest of one Punna, wanted in connection with a case of loot.

The irate villagers also damaged a police jeep. Among the injured personnel, all of whom have been admitted to hospital, were Sub-Inspector Azad Ali and woman SI Raghbir Kaur.

Following the attack, additional personnel were rushed to the village where the situation has now been brought under control, police said.
 

Thirteen people have been named in the case which has been registered over the attack, they added.

Meanwhile, SSP HN Singh said that a search is now on for the accused whom the team had gone to arrest.
